A residential haven in the heart of Adelaide, South Australia

Elder Mews

Elder Mews cottages are the remaining 13 of a building project financed by Sir Tomas Elder to upgrade the standard of housing for Adelaide workmen.  Commencing in 1899, 48 cottages of similar design were constructed.  As a result of pressure by conservationists 13 cottages were saved from demolition in 1973 with restoration being completed in 1974.

The cottages are privately owned and maintained by the owners with a registered small cooperative which represents the owners’ common interests.
